The Arco SW295 and Chrysler/Force/US Marine 89-817109A3, F460917-1, 89-F460917-1, and 89-803822T solenoids are interchangeable with the Sierra 18-5835 solenoid. The original equipment part that each Sierra product replaces is met or exceeds them. An electromagnet or starter solenoid is activated to turn on an internal combustion engine's starter motor. It is typically directly connected to the starter motor that it regulates. Its purpose is to operate as the coil that activates a contactor, a relay made for heavy electric currents, which connects the battery to the starter motor. Although many cars reserve the label "starting relay" for a different relay that powers the starter solenoid, the starter solenoid is occasionally referred to as the "starter relay."
