The starting solenoid is an electrical component that functions as a form of an electric relay. It is a component of the starting circuit that aids in the electric transmission current from the battery to the starter. The starting motor solenoid adjusts the starter pinion gear to mesh it with the engine flywheel or flexplate when you switch on the ignition key or push the starter button.
